How is the egg float test performed to check freshness?

Reviewed 2026-07-24

The float test can indicate egg age or quality: older eggs float because their air cell has enlarged. It cannot determine safety. Crack the egg into a separate bowl, check for unusual odor or appearance, and observe refrigerated storage time.
